House Ranch

One of the first obsessions that I discovered when I first moved to the states was McDonald’s french fries with ranch. Ranch, the sauce of the creamy gods, is still a favorite, albeit not the ultra processed Micky D’s sauce anymore. Nowadays, I am more granola and like to make everything from scratch. House buttermilk ranch is no exception to the rule: make it at home and it will beat any store bought ranch. Anytime. Anywhere.

House Ranch

Ingredients

1
egg yolk
7 fl oz
dijon mustard
Juice of 1
lemon
1/2 cup
sour cream
1 tbsp
green onion, minced
1/4 tbsp
onion powder
1 tbsp
dill, finely chopped
1/2 tbsp
dry parsley
1/2 tbsp
dry tarragon
1/2 tbsp
garlic powder
As needed
buttermilk
To taste
salt
To taste
pepper

Instructions

  1. Start by making the mayonnaise:
    1. Combine the egg yolk and mustard in a bowl, add salt and pepper. Whisking constantly, add the oil drop by drop, then in a steady stream. It will slowly emulsify and thicken. Slowly add the lemon juice to loosen the mayonnaise until you get your desired consistency.
  2. Add one cup of the mayonnaise and combine all of the rest of the ingredients except for the buttermilk.
  3. Add the buttermilk slowly until you get the consistency you like. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
  4. Voila, it is done and delicious. Easy and no weird ingredients you do not recognize.
