Arabic Desktop Suite

Keeping transliterations consistent and names straight.

Translation between Arabic and other languages is hard enough without having to wrestle with the technical details of file format or hunting for the correct spelling of foreign names — a time-consuming task, but vital for an accurate translation.

Basis Technology has developed the Arabic Desktop Suite to tame the language and computer complexities of the Arabic language.

  • Arabic Editor –This easy-to-use text editor for Microsoft Windows permits the input of Arabic text using a standard keyboard layout. Suitable for typists from linguistic experts to beginning Arabic students. Save plain text files to the desired encoding: CP1256, ISO-8859-6 or Unicode.
  • Transliteration Assistant - With this plug-in, highlight a Romanized Arabic name in a Microsoft Word or Excel document and get back the corresponding vocalized Arabic spelling or the equivalent transliteration in any of several schemes.
  • Geoscope – This map viewer lets the user verify the spelling of geographic features in the Middle East or see where they are located.
